Springbok wing banned for two weeks

Springbok wing Jean de Villiers has been suspended for two weeks for a dangerous tackle in the Springboks 31-17 loss to the All Blacks.

The ban means that De Villiers will miss just one match as the Springboks play the Wallabies in Brisbane next Saturday and then get the following weekend off.

The ban runs until August the 1st and the Springboks next match after their upcoming Wallaby clash is against the All Blacks on the 21st of August in Soweto.

De Villiers appeared before a SANZAR judicial hearing and was found guilty of a lifting, tip tackle on All Blacks winger Rene Ranger.

Judicial officer Dennis Wheelahan said "an important mitigating factor" was de Villiers' good disciplinary which has spanned 10 years and seen him earn 60 caps for South Africa.

The ban has done the Springboks reputation for dangerous and physical play no good as last week Springboks lock Bakkies Botha was banned for the duration of the TriNations for a headbutt on All Blacks halfback Jimmy Cowan.
