Springbok number 10 Morne Steyn kicked South Africa to a historic 31-19 victory over the All Blacks in Durban scoring all of their points with a try, 8 penalties and a conversion.
Man of the match Steyn might have got a full house (try,pen,con,drop) had he not missed with his attempt at a drop goal.
Steyn broke the record for the most points scored by a Springbok in a single match. The previous record was at 22 (Jannie de Beer). In addition Steyn broke Andrew Mehrtens 1999 record of 29 for the most points scored in a TriNations match.
The match was also historic as it was the first time that the Springboks had won a series against the All Blacks since the 1970's.
John Smit became the most capped Captain of all time in
rugby during the match at 60.
The Springboks dominated the game with their kicking game but what really cost the All Blacks the match was the number of penalties that they gave away.
Steyn, who replaced injured Ruan Pienaar in the starting XV, single-handedly stole the advantage from the All Blacks shortly before half-time and the hosts never relinquished it as they stretched their early lead at the top of the Tri-Nations log with two wins from as many games.
The 25-year-old had given South Africa the early lead with a penalty in the fifth minute, but his counterpart, Stephen Donald, gradually put New Zealand ahead.
And the All Blacks stayed in front until three minutes before the half-time whistle.
In the 12th minute All Black lock Isaac Ross dotted over on the left wing and, despite Steyn's efforts which included the first of four missed drop kicks, Donald gave New Zealand the edge as they took a 13-12 lead eight minutes before the break.
But then Steyn set up a lineout and two scrums later, he was back in the middle of the action when he dotted over with less than three minutes on the half-time clock.
He successfully converted his try and in the final phase of the half added three more from a penalty kick to give the hosts a 22-13 lead at the break - enough of a gap that the Springboks were never really threatened again.
New Zealand fought back hard but Steyn's superb kicking kept the hosts ahead throughout the second half as they secured a second successive victory.
All Blacks captain Richie McCaw gave credit to their opposition, whom he referred to as one of the best sides he‘s played against.
"The Springbok team is right up there," said McCaw.
"To get beaten two weeks in a row shows what kind of a team they are."
John Smit, who became the most experienced international skipper of all time when he earned his 60th cap as Bok captain, said they would look for further improvement when they face Australia in Cape Town next weekend before they head overseas.
"The more you win the more you have to win," said Smit.
"We've got two from two, but next weak will be paramount to give ourselves a really good go overseas."
As good as the Springboks were the All Blacks handling left a lot to be desired with over 28 handling errors coming in this one match. They also gave away too many penalties to be in contention for a victory.
The All Blacks now have a couple of weeks off while the Springboks face Australia in Cape Town next weeekend.
